Abstract

As a general rule, in most states, heirs receive by succession all transferable rights, all property possessed by the deceased. That means that heirs do not need to transfer individual assets or property as a whole, nor do they need to transfer copyrights or obligations. With succession, the heirs simply step into the testator's shoes.
